Where Have The Days Gone?

Blimey, one day I'm all up to date with my blog, the next I owe you all days and days of updating! I've been busy over the weekend, but not that busy that I couldn't have got my lazy fingers onto a keyboard and told you what I've been eating...

One very important thing that I did manage to do was finally sign up for Race for Life. Some of you may remember that I walked it last year, and managed to finish in a not too terrible time of 48 minutes and 48 seconds as I walked my way around the 5K course.

Since that day I've lost 3st 6½lbs and completed the Couch to 5K programme, so I'll be running the whole race this time, so please, if you can spare anything at all, even a few pence, please sponsor me HERE there is also a button at the top of the page :) Thank you!

Anyway, back we go, this time right back to (holy crap has it been that long...) Thursday! I shall whizz through these extra days, rather than blanket bomb you with all my food diaries though! All week I've been following the same plan, as advised by Claire, so I've been on the Extra Easy plan that is now the norm for most Slimming Worlders out there, and I've been limiting my syns to 10 a day rather than 15 all in an effort to finally FINALLY get the scales moving again.

Thursday involved much walking - we walked all around Yarmouth, and visited places as diverse as our local spice man where we picked up some BereBer and BBQ seasoning, TKMaxx, where I had to get this mug and this tea ...

...and as we were passing, we popped into Tesco to see if that had that rarest of FryLights, the holy grail of spray oil...garlic...

Yay! Foodwise, my Extra Easy, 10 syn day looked rather a lot like this...

The curry was made with the BereBer seasoning so for my tastebuds it was HOT, but it was delicious as well, as hot food doesn't hurt when you're trying to lose weight after all! Apart from that, pretty standard fare really!

Friday wasn't quite as full of walking as Thursday, although it did involve yet another visit into town, so yet another coffee, and the joys of the weekly shop. I also listened to Hague and Keith on the radio, which is always good fun, they're on at harbourradio.com if you ever fancy a listen!

That's how Friday tasted, very strawberry heavy, but hey, those delicious little sods are superspeed, every little helps! I'd also finally got through to work on Friday, so knew what I'd be working for the week ahead, which settled my over active brain down slightly so I could enjoy the weekend before going back. Saturday started rather late, with kickboxing for Hague at 12.30, a run for me whilst he was out, and then a mosey into town (for a change) after the football, where I decided that dressing up needed to happen. Sometimes red lippy and a pretty dress is all you need to lift a mood after all.

We have changed SO much in two years, it's just mad! Anyway, the evening was spent chatting to TOK and planning how my little bedroom will be transformed (at some point) from a laundry cum dumping room to a beautiful little haven for guests...one day...I also discovered the delights of Sarah & Duck - which is now one of my favourite TV shows, as it had me lol-ing away nicely, never a bad thing.

An earlyish night for us as Sunday was a hugely exciting day. Hague's kickboxing club was having a skills tournament, and so it would be his first time ever in the ring, he couldn't wait! However, he had to wait as he had to go to work first, and so when I picked him up, it was a quick change for him, a 3 minute prep for a slow cooker soup for me and off we went. For some reason it hadn't dawned on me that eating breakfast at about 9am, and the tournament not ending until around 6pm left rather a large gap without food, so I had to have an emergency run to Tesco, but I didn't miss his fight - and was rewarded with 10p tubs of fruit for my efforts anyway :)

I was beyond proud of him, ever since I've known him Hague has wanted to get back into martial arts, and him losing the weight, and keeping it off as meant that he is now closer to fulfilling his dream of a professional fight. He was absolutely buzzing all night, I was just gutted that I had to get myself to bed early as a 4.30 alarm beckoned :( Foodwise, it was once again completely on plan!

Are you still with me after all that?? Good going if you are! So finally we're onto today, a day I'm never overly fond of, the Monday of earlies, even knowing the shift would only be 6 hours due to my phased return wasn't enough to fill me full of the joys of Spring, but even with JadeyPuss somehow managing to sneak upstairs during the night I managed to have a reasonable night's sleep, but was still as groggy as hell once I woke up. Of course I'd left it far too late to get any petrol, and so I drove into work on fumes. Start up is always reasonably relaxed and so I managed to get my breakfast eaten quite early, during my first break.

Fruit, a wee bit of toasted couscous and fat free natural yogurt, always a good breakfast for work, as it's easy to prepare the night before - especially if you have a rather wonderful boyfriend that does it for you - and it's nice and filling. Work wasn't as bad as it has been, I didn't feel overly anxious as I had been the previous week, and although I was really tired, I got through the day, during my other break I had myself this little lot to keep me going though.

It reached midday nice and quickly though, and then I could get myself home (via the petrol station as things were getting desperate) and to a lovely home cooked lunch from Hague.

Mushroom omelette and cheesey chips, with extra light mayo. Yummy! The decision was then made by both of us to have a "small" nap. Mine lasted 2½ hours. Oops. This is part of the reason that I really don't like earlies, I get so shattered that I need to nap after work, which then stops me sleeping early at night, which then leaves me tired the next day. I know I don't help myself, but to be honest, I'm not the world's best sleeper anyway - so the odd nap won't hurt, right?

The icing on the Monday Cake arrived in the shape of a phonecall from my Dad, informing me that I'd been caught speeding whilst we headed down for the party a fortnight ago. Oh the joy. It's always something, bang goes most of the spends I'd had saved for my weekend away at TOK's! Whilst Hague watched Midnight Cowboy, I turned my mind to dinner, and I fancied using the pak choi I'd picked up for 7p in Tesco and so went with a stir fry.

I might be saying so myself, but the stir fry was amazing, not entirely sure why, as it was pretty standard, with garlic and ginger, my Chinese spice grinder, Wok FryLight (the last of - sob), and then soy sauce and sweet chilli sauce, the sauce went all rich and sticky and it was just delicious! I even have some of the veggies left for tomorrow, as I always overestimate a stir fry! In between dinner and my dessert of blueberries and yogurt I had a chat with Claire (my Consultant), who has been looking over my food diaries this week in an effort to get to the bottom of my hard time at the scales recently. She gave me a few good tips about planning my meals a bit better, and trying to up my proteins as well as mixing up my meals. It's so nice to have someone who cares so much about your journey, and wants to help. I do hope that something will work soon and I'll get some nice, steady small losses again soon. Believe me, looking up how much I weighed for the last Race for Life 10 months ago and seeing I'm less than 3½st lighter did not make me a happy Karen. *sigh*

With dinner done with and the clock racing towards 8 o'clock, I already have to be thinking about bed, which I'll be heading to soon, accompanied by a hot chocolate and a precious Christmas pudding HiFi bar!

So there we have it, five days in my life, whizzed through in a bit of a whirlwind! I've managed to keep on the self induced strait jacket of Extra Easy with 10 syns all week, so I do hope the scales are kind this week - I'm not feeling too hopeful though, once again I'm feeling bloated and fat, so we shall see! If it's not a great result I might go back to Success Express, as I seem to find that easier than Extra Easy! Hopefully with me working shorter shifts this week I'll actually manage to get blogs up for you on a daily basis rather than this haphazard pattern I've been following recently!

Oh, and just in case you've forgotten about the start of this blog, and my plea for sponsorship, I shall handily plop a link down here for you as well ;o)

Scales and Scale

Oh Tuesday - the anticipation and nervousness of the simple act of getting on a set of scales - they seem to come around so quickly! I've managed to wean myself out of the lazy girl habit of sleeping for most of the day on my week off to limit my food intake though, and so I was up early(ish) and got myself a nice breakfast sorted before we headed into town - just for a change...

Nothing too heavy, but I rather enjoyed it :o) Way back near the start of my journey, I blogged over a few weeks about some of the reasons I had for losing weight, included in those reasons were gems such as wearing vintage style clothing, patterned tights and New Rock boots, well yesterday I went for the full house as it were...

I know my clothes choices are not to everyone's taste - but I felt good yesterday, in a way that words can't describe sometimes, buying boots and "one size" tights are something most people take for granted, for me, this are huge achievements, and sometimes it's those Non-Scale Victories (NSV's) that keep us going. We had a lovely walk into town, along the sea front, and in a huge change went to Starbucks rather than Costa.

I do wish that all coffee shops did all flavours of sugar free syrup! With that drunk, we pretty much had to get our bums home straight away as I had decided to walk to Slimming World (still in my boots, every little helps when it comes to the scales) so it was a quick in and out for me (ooer Missus). I got to group early, which was a good thing, as I managed to get my hands on 4 of the last 6 packs of the Christmas Pudding HiFi bars. The scales, however, were not so nice, handing me a gain of 3lbs. After a week of Success Express (except my sole Green day on Saturday). I think pee-ed off is an understatement. It seems that no matter what I do, the losses just aren't coming, so now I'm 3½lbs heavier than I was before Christmas, I just wish I knew what to do! I focused on how good I'd felt, and still felt in my outfit, and tried not to let it upset me too much, but a walk home just gave me too much time to ponder and by the time I got home I was rather upset. Success Express went out of the window and I did myself a bowl of cheesey pasta.

Once I'd eaten dinner, and then picked up Hague I had a proper think about my options...I'd been given Fast Forward by Claire, somewhat reluctantly so had that option open to me, although to be honest, for a normal eater, it's a strict plan, for a vegetarian it'd be hugely difficult. I could carry on with Success Express and hope that a full 7 day week on it would finally give me a loss, I could go back to good old Green, give Extra Easy a go, or cut back on my syns a tad. All viable options, and all gave me something to sleep on. Not before a nice soak with Hague and a snack though.

That's why I love Green days, in one plate! Two HeB choices! Yum!

tbsp honey                                      2½

Total syns                                       11½

A combination of earplugs, sleeping pills and eye mask meant that I slept quite well, despite a soundtrack of Jason Vorhees murdering people to lull me to sleep... In fact, I didn't wake up until nearly 11am, to a Hague that had already been out for a run! So lazy of me! I had given serious thought as to what to do regarding my weight loss, and have decided that this week I'll go with Extra Easy, and sticking to 10 syns a day, Claire seemed pleased with that decision, so we shall see how that goes. I did get my bum out of bed in time to help with breakfast though, and for once, we had the same thing.

With breakfast eaten, I got down to the important business of the day, looking over the Fast Forward information to see just how hard it'd be, as I still think it might be an option for a few days if the scales stay stubborn and nattering away to my poor, poorly TOK. Before too long though I had to get myself up and dressed as I had an appointment with the Dentist. I'm not scared of the Dentist as some people seem to be, but I tend to view them like Doctor's, if nowt is up with my teeth, then I don't go....however, that has led to a situation where I haven't actually got a Dentist in Great Yarmouth, and I've lived here since January 2003....Oops. I have a sneaking suspicion that it might have been as long as 18 years since I've seen one, and that was only to have a wisdom tooth removed. So I was a tad apprehensive shall we say? She was lovely though, and even after all this time, my toothypegs are just fine and dandy. Tad of gum erosion courtesy of my much missed tongue piercing, but other than that, fabulous. So, 39 years of age and still one baby tooth and no fillings. I'm quite proud of that!

I'll shut up about my teeth now as I'm sure you're not even slightly interested in them, and return to my day, which then took us to Asda, with me running my tongue over my scaled and polished teeth pretty much the whole way, as Aakeela (one of our lovely Bus passengers) had posted a picture of the new flavour of Shape yogurt, pineapple and coconut and I decided that I had to try them immediately. In a rather unlikely turn of events our Asda actually had them and so we picked those up, plus some reduced mince and fish for Hague and then wandered ourselves back home, pretty much only just in time for him to talk to his Boys and me to sort out Lunch....which I really shouldn't call Lunch as it was eaten at 6pm.

Homemade veggie soup I'd found in the fridge, heated up with some gnocchi and my HeB choice of bread, as I happily discovered that these 3 slices weighed 60g :o) Sometimes it's the little things that make you happy! Unsurprisingly, dessert involved a Shape pineapple and coconut yogurt.

Big thumbs up from me and Hague with those! After we'd both eaten we finally got around to watching Catching Fire, BlinkBox winning the battle for us to view as they were handing out £6 of credit for a mere quid, good job really as the quality was more akin to video than HD streaming! Still, the film was good and I enjoyed it anyway! After a good few hours of sorting that and then watching the film, it was time for Dinner, and I thought I'd ring the changes a bit with noodles.

I had really fancied sweet chilli noodles, but alas, we had none - we also have no Marmite, which was a rather scary thing to find whilst hunting for sweet chilli sauce, how can a house have no Marmite? Anyway, I ended up just using Soy sauce, plus some garlic and ginger and various grinders and things with the frying veggies, before stirring in the noodles and topping with a couple of the Quorn sticky fillets. Once dinner had gone down, my mind turned to dessert, and as I had 5½ syns left, it pretty much chose itself...

Whilst I ate, Hague was indulging in his apparent favourite pastime of flicking through Netflix to see what's on there, and so I sorted myself out a very milky Chai tea and headed for a bath, whilst he watched Transformers, and after my lovely soak, complete with Secret Eaters - seriously, how can you be eating chicken popcorn, eclairs and chugging away energy drinks and not know why you're gaining weight - it was back to the laptop to get this here blog done and dusted for you all!

So, an Extra Easy day done and dusted, with a minute by minute food diary completed for Claire to cast her eyes over next week, including everything I've eaten and drunk all day long. Although I'm really hoping that's not needed and I get a stonking loss next week - and the week after....etc etc!

It does get frustrating when the scales stick, especially when Slimming World have plateau-ing under their myths page. Thing is, I can just keep going and trying new things, or I can give up, and giving up just isn't an option. When I first started my journey, at over 25st and in sz32 jeans, I put my target at getting into sz14 clothes, well I'm there now, but I look down at myself naked and still don't like what I see, my legs are fat, and flabby, I still have far too much in the way of tummy rolls and my upper arms are horrendous, but I'm in sz14 jeans and have several tops in 10's and 12's. Sometimes, numbers aren't everything, but I desperately want to get into that elusive "normal" bracket, for my weight at least, as right now, I'm still obese, by 10lbs, and still practically 3st from my perfectly reasonable 11st target weight. I've had a few telling's off today about my self perception, about how I still see myself as fat, when I'm not - I even planned to keep a pair of sz22 knickers I unearthed today in the bedroom before Hague well and truly told me off. It does make me wonder if the brain does ever catch up completely....when I get to target, I'll be sure to let you all know! :o)

Finally, my blog hit 750,000 views the other day, an insane amount, so I just wanted to say a huge thank you to every one of you for popping in to catch up with my journey, just knowing you're following my progress helps me far more than you'll ever realise, so thank you all so very much x

Happy Mondays and Huge Mushrooms

Monday's aren't usually happy, but this one was pretty good! Although I'm in the middle of a phased return, and offering to come in to do some hours during my week off, I've got the rostered week off anyway. Without Jadey as a bed partner I managed to sleep too and woke up well before my alarm, although I only managed a cup of coffee before getting myself up and out to pick up Hague from the station - that ALWAYS makes me happy!

Once we were back, he could tell me all about his weekend whilst we got some breakfast eaten.

I do love my fruit and yogurt, I topped it with one of the NutriGrain breakfast biscuits which are no longer a HeB, so just synned it. Not long after that, we decided to mosey into town, Hague had to be in town for 4.30 for work anyway, so we figured we'd go in and have a mooch about. As is pretty normal when we mooch I found something I MUST HAVE :o)

Isn't it fabulous? We then headed to Costa for a coffee before Hague had to go to work, I splashed out on a sugary syrup though, so my coffee contained 4 big ol' syns.

I went for salted caramel, which was nice, but probably not different enough to normal caramel to warrant the synnage! A quick wander around the market where I had to buy these mushrooms...

...and it was off to Harbour Radio for Hague to get working as Keith (who he works with) DJ's for the station. I did munch on a couple of clementines whilst I was there, but they weren't hitting the spot and so I abandoned Hague and came home to sort out some lunch.

One of the humungous mushrooms, topped with some of the leftover bean stew / lasagne filling mix and then topped with two HE's worth of mozzarella. It was delicious! With that eaten, I walked back into town to meet back up with Hague and then flumped on the sofa with a little friend...

The time moseyed away with us watching vintage Treasure Hunt and it was soon getting to dinner time, but I wasn't feeling massively hungry, or massively awake and so I had a bowl of fruit again.

I did then want to head up to bed, but was persuaded to hang on a wee bit longer and we watched a documentary before I got myself a hot chocolate and gave up the ghost! I was just too weary to blog for you all last night, so much walking!

So another Success Express day under my belt, and a day in which I haven't been hugely hungry. If I don't get a loss this week though, I might have a look at my portion sizes, and maybe my syns, anything to get this weight shifted once more.

I laid in bed last night getting annoyed with myself as I should, realistically be closing in on my 13st award now, even, at a push, being in the final stone countdown to target - but I'm not. I'm still sitting at practically the same weight I was 3 months ago. Comparing your journey to other people's is always a recipe for disaster, but I really am at a loss as to why I'm not getting the losses anymore. In 2014 I have had 4 days off plan, that's it. Four. Without sounding preachy or arsey, I'm sure not too many slimmers could put their hand on their heart and say that, but I'm betting most are still lighter than they were at Christmas!

*sigh*

I know there are still tools in the Slimming World arsenal for me to try, including another (full) week of Success Express, as I had one sneaky Green day this week, and the notorious strait jacket of Fast Forward. I shall see what this evening's weigh in holds for me, and ponder my next move from there....

Wish me luck?

My Weekend

A whole weekend to recall for you today, I was just far too tired yesterday to stay awake to blog I'm afraid. Saturday started far too early, at 6.30am as it was a Barnsley weekend and I needed to drop Hague off at the station. Normally I'd get myself back into bed sharpish, but as my Nan is still in hospital recovering from a fall, and my Mum was popping down to see her I decided to go along as well to see how she was doing, and so once I was back from the station I got myself some breakfast sorted out, as well as a packed lunch for the journey, as we'd be out all day.

As you can tell from breakfast, I wasn't going to have a Success Express day - it's much easier to eat out and about on Green. Once I'd eaten, I got a nice bath and then headed out to my Mum's for the journey down to London.

It wasn't a bad journey, the A12 slowcoaches didn't hold us up too much and so we got to the hospital reasonably early and spent a good couple of hours with my Nan. It was good to see her looking so much better than I expected. She's 97 this Summer, so any fall is a bit of a worry. It was gone 3 by the time me and Mum headed home, and we had a wee pit stop in a layby for our packed lunches :)

I was working the daisy combo, as you can see! We made good time, and so I was back indoors by about 6.30 where I could get my feet up and ponder what I'd have with the bean casserole I'd left cooking in the slow cooker all day.

Green day meant chips!! Still plenty of super free there though, and quite a bit later I had a snack plate before heading up to bed. The day might have mostly been spent sitting, but I was shattered!

For some stupid reason I decided to take Jade up with me to bed. I really don't know why I think she'll just sleep I'm sure, but I live in hope....this wasn't the night though, and she wandered around and generally kept me awake so when I woke up I was rather tired. I was up quite early for me though at around 10.30 and got back onto the Success Express train!

I had one of the new HeB porridge sachets with my fruit - and whilst it was rather nice, I think in future I'll have it separate from the fruit as the flavour was lost slightly. I then got to the business of the day, plonked in front of the telly with the animals.

In a huge change from the norm I was watching My Kitchen Rules, as recommended by my Mum rather than the usual Come Dine With Me! Alas, I was struck with worms again and so not too long after breakfast my mind turned to lunch!

Some of the leftover bean casserole, along with some roasted swede and cabbage, leek and sprouts, I followed it up with a rather large, snacky dessert to accompany me on my television marathon.

I do like to graze at times! I'm also addicted to the lovely little flapjacks! Whilst I was picking at my food and texting Hague he informed me that he was going out for a run. As you may have noticed, I've not been out for a run in a few days and I registered the fact that I was slumped on the sofa, with one of my GymPact's for the week still outstanding. Not one to splash out $5 on a fine for not exercising I figured I'd get my lazy bum off the sofa and out for a run! I managed to complete the second run of week 5 though, so next up is the 20 minute run again. Not so nervous this time as I know I can do it, and so much of running is in your head!

Of course, after a run, it was bath time, and as I've noticed that I'm snacking on a lot of fruit whilst on SE, I changed it up with a vegetable snack in the bath.

It was then right back to the sofa :) When the worms demanded more food, after several more episodes of My Kitchen Rules, I decided on a lasagne, stuffed full of veggies.

It was lovely! I had some of the filling left, and so have mixed that in with the remaining bean casserole to become....well...something meal shaped in the future! After eating that little lot, and having a drink, I decided that I was indeed still hungry and so had the rest of the lasagne.

Just two pasta sheets in there to keep the carb levels down :o) It really was rather tasty, I think the lobbing in of a stock pot with the veggies and tomatoes helped. Dessert was simple.

It was also eaten rather late, whilst having a little FaceTime chat with Hague (and Jade who insisted on being in front of the camera for most of the call). As I'd not had the greatest of nights, and had been nattering to Hague for ages, I didn't get this blog up yesterday and headed up to bed, with a hot chocolate and my HiFi bar - what will I do once these little beauties are no more? :o(

So that was my weekend! I ended it last night with a bit of a plea for help on Facebook, asking people if I was eating too much, as I'm getting very frustrated by my stalling gains at the moment. I'm so grateful to have such a wonderful support network, although I am desperately hoping that Success Express works for me this week. Much as I'm over the moon with the weight I've lost, I'm STILL obese, and still have plenty left to lose. Roll on Tuesday when I can be put out of my misery!
