Trying to Focus

Today has been an attempt at a big, calming deep breath after such a hideous week. It didn't start too well, with another night where it felt like I didn't sleep a wink, I was wide awake at 9.30 and despite trying to get more sleep, none was forthcoming so when I got myself out of bed I was rather zombie-like.


Just like that, obviously ;) I had made the decision to get myself out of the house today. No jammies on the sofa, no hiding away, fresh air and exercise instead! To make sure I got plenty of both I had organised to pick up some Facebook purchases at 1pm and 3pm in quite different parts of Yarmouth, although due to not getting my bum out of bed when I first woke up, I didn't have huge amounts of time to sort out breakfast and get ready, so I decided on magic muffins as I could leave the oats to soak whilst I had a cuppa, and then just bung the muffins in the oven whilst I sorted out Boo and JadeyPuss.


I used a Shape apple crumble yogurt, and so an apple was the sensible choice to accompany the muffins before I got myself dressed and out. First stop was to pick up a £5 denim jacket before I had myself a wander around town. I hadn't planned on spending any of my birthday money, but I wandered into The Works (as I always do) and spotted a book that TOK and I had been talking about reading - and of course, as the books were 3 for £5, it was silly to just buy one...


That should keep me occupied for a while, although my Books To Read pile is now getting rather high! I also stopped off at New Look as our local store has had a refit, and those devious so and so's had reduced a dress I'd been eyeing up for a while now. I picked up a 14, wondering if I was pushing it a bit and tried it on....too big O.O so it really was insanely rude not to buy the dress as I needed a sz12, it was only £10, and I already have the daisy print cardigan and shoes that will complete the outfit perfectly!


With time to kill before my next pick up I headed to Costa where I made the effort to just sit, relax and try to enjoy the sunshine, accompanied as always by TOK on iMessage.


With plans made to meet up sooner rather than later (funds allowing), and my huge coffee finished I then embarked on the next leg of my Fresh Air and Exercise Adventure, picking up yet another Facebook purchase and somehow falling into Lidl, where I bought some ENORMOUS sweet potatoes and B&M where I finally found some cheap glass beads so I could update my weight loss jars. Why I thought buying so many heavy things was a good idea when I was walking I'll never know, but it was with very achey arms that I finally arrived home, after rather a lot of kilometres!

I think my mileage (kilometreage?) may have been overestimated slightly there, but nonetheless, I did walk a lot, and so I was rather hungry when I got home and so I got one of my huge sweet potatoes in the oven and finally updated my progress jars :o)


Although now I've added the extra pebbles for those 28 extra ½lbs I want to lose I'm not sure they'll all fit into the lb's lost jar! Only time will tell! By then, I was rather hungry and so got busy sorting out the rest of my lunch/dinner type meal. Frying off some leeks, mushrooms and garlic to go into my sweet potato and getting a bit of salad on my plate.


I mixed the leeks, mushrooms, garlic and the inside of the sweet potato up in a bowl, added in some blue cheese Laughing Cows and put that mix back in the spuds, and put them back in the oven for 15 minutes. Tasted so good! Certainly kept me full for a fair old while, and it was a good hour or so before I wanted my dessert.


After such a busy afternoon, I'm now utterly shattered, so it might just be time to tear myself away from Come Dine With Me, sort out a milky hot chocolate and get myself tucked up in bed with a book.....if I can choose which one!

It's not been a long day, but it's certainly been a tiring one, so I really hope I sleep! Despite my mood still being rather low, I took the time to really think about the good things that happened today, to make sure I could focus on those rather than the underlying mood that could quite easily wash them away. I don't want it to win, so it shall be the sz12 dress, the coffee in the sunshine, the May weekend plans, the exercise, the fresh air, the lovely dinner and the sofa cuddles with Boo that I shall focus on. Hard.

  1. Karen,I came across your blog whilst browsing for Slimming World recipes and I have to say you are an inspiration.I suffer from Bipolar and I know how hard it is to stay focused,especially when crappy things happen.Well done and keep doing what your doing xxx
