8 from 8

So here we are, on weigh in day. A day I was super nervous about, and a day on which I hadn't even considered the possibility of what actually happened.....

I lost ½lb. Yup, 8 bloody ounces - which left me the same 8 ounces short of my elusive 8 stone award! I'd only considered the options of losing 1lb and getting the award, or gaining. The thought that I might lose, but still not get my sticky just didn't enter my head. So how far away was I?

That bloody far lol! As many people have pointed out to me today though, it was still a loss - even after my rather flexible Saturday night at the Beer Festival. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that I lost, just utterly frustrated that I am so damn close! Oh well, it shall be mine next week! With weigh in done and dusted, I planned to head straight home, but as group had finished a bit early, and I was practically driving past Sainsburys I decided to detour to see if I could find the lesser spotted Quorn roast and low fat Quorn sausages! I'm sure you'll all be pleased to hear that at least one of my endeavours today was successful, as I left there with 3 boxes of the syn free sausages and a couple of Quorn roasts!

Of course, I then had to sample the sausages immediately and so had them for breakfast before heading off to work.

Maybe not quite as delicious as the normal Quorn sausages, but still very tasty, and all the better for being syn free of course! Served up with some mushrooms, beans, tomatoes and mixed herbs, as well as some potato wedges it was a filling start to my day - which was going to be a bit taxing due to the onslaught of Hague's Plague :(

As I was taking in cold food today, I could utilise a present that was given to me by the wonderful Helen at the weekend, and that I'd been dying to use as it's just so perfect!

Isn't it fabulous? And just so utterly perfect for me to take to work - even with the mountains of snacks I take it. I love it SO much! Anyway, the top picture is what I actually ate during my first break, the second is just because I was showing it off to everyone! :)

I also had a couple of cold tablets during my first break as I was struggling a bit, and unfortunately they didn't do a huge amount - still, after having flu last year, I'll take a cold any day of the week! My next break was another chance to get a wee bit more food down me, as well as more caffeine.

Another munchable from my Graze box (try one for free with this code YYX2MZN here) this time Rosemary crostini with smoked tomato dip. Delicious, and at 5 syns a nice substitute for a packet of crisps. With TOK on email and the lines not running too badly, the shift was going quite quickly and soon it was time for dinner, good old leftovers.

This time it was the remains of the pasta quiche, along with a yogurt and Bear yoyo's. After dinner was eaten I had to go and learn the intricacies of another machine, so I can cover breaks, and so had to abandon Hague and TOK on email to learn how to run another line :( Still, I got another break in too, although my masterpiece of a photo of my apple and coffee seems to have disappeared!

Soon it was 9.45 and time to head home, Hague had talked about having Quorn roast with mash for his dinner and so I'd jumped on the bandwagon and he had some waiting for me when I got home, along with some broccoli and cauliflower cheese.

Mashed into the mash were my HeA of Laughing Cow extra light triangles, and a HeB of cheddar adorned the veg. It may be nearly June, but it's definitely the weather for comfort food and dinner fitted the bill perfectly!

The Spread of Hague's Plague!

Perhaps it's quite fitting that last night I finished the latest Dan Brown offering - Inferno - with its numerous references to Black Death and Plague, as Hague certainly seems to have done his best to have spread his cold far and wide, with several of our weekend visitors now suffering, as well as some of his new work colleagues...it also means that we're both having disturbed nights due to our wonderful cold symptoms, not fun :(

That meant that my plans to get up when he did went right out of the window in favour of more sleep, in fact I didn't drag my tired, sore little self out of bed until just 20 minutes before I had to leave for work, so breakfast was both quick to make and to eat!

Although, I have to correct a mistake I've made with these pineapple and coconut yogurts, it was pointed out to me today that these are not 0% fat, which they're not, and so some investigation has shown that they are in fact 3½ syns...quite high for what they are, and although most other days I've eaten them have been low syn days, it means they've pushed me over today. Shows how you should always check syn values for yourself and not take the word of a SW blogger as gospel! Live and learn for me!

With breakfast wolfed down, off to work I headed, feeling very tired, but happy to think I only have four 8 hour shifts between me and my week off, well that was the case until I agreed to work Sunday night as well! Anyway, work was much of a muchness and contained this food...

As you might be able to tell, I had a Graze box delivered today, and so had one of the nibbles with me today, something I would have skipped if I'd have been aware of the yogurt synnage!

Lunch was leftover chilli from Saturday, plus even more syns in the shape of a yogurt....Damn me and my ignorance of my syns total!

So with work done and dusted, I headed home via Asda to pick up some much needed cold medication whilst Hague slaved over my dinner, bless him.

An eclectic dinner, that's for sure, sweet potato chips, with a double HeA of LowLow cheese and an egg salad, for some reason it's what I fancied and it went down a treat. Afterwards I fancied something sweet though and went for grapes.....and a bloody Muller dessert!

So annoyed with myself for going high syn today, which is silly really. Just emphasises what I always tell everyone else in the whole world - check the syns of what you're eating. I had just totally presumed the pineapple and coconut yogurts were 0% as they were next the the Lemon and Lime ones, which definitely are. Oh well, in the scheme of things a couple of syns won't kill me, and my rational head knows that a couple of syns will not be the difference between a loss and gain tomorrow......but my rational head isn't known to work very well the night before weigh in and so right now I'm kicking myself. At least thanks must go to Emma for pointing out to me that they weren't fat free, so stopping me carrying on in syn nomming ignorance!

Stupid isn't it? I'm sitting here feeling gutted as I went 2 syns over my allowance today, yet on Saturday I merrily drank and ate as I'd decided I was "off plan". I guess it just goes to show how much of staying on plan is in your head rather than your stomach eh?

So, it's weigh in tomorrow, due to me working 2-10pm this week. Tonight's weigh in wasn't kind to Hague, as he had a 1lb gain, which he was gutted about. I'm hoping beyond hope that I get the 1lb I need to reach my 8 stone award, but right now I have no idea which way the scales are going to go. On one hand, I was off plan on Saturday, and have gone over my syns today, plus I've got a cold. On the other hand, I did reduce down my syns during the week to minimise damage and as I last weighed in last Monday I've had an extra day to lose......who knows what they'll say, but I DO know that whatever they say it won't be down to those 2 extra syns!!

Unicorn Hunts and Ketchup Time!

That is a large Ketchup - this blog is also rather a large catch up as I've managed to fail my lovely blog readers by not putting a blog up in days. By looking back, it seems as if the last time I managed to update you was last Thursday, which would have been Wednesday's food! Shocking! I shall skim over Thursday and Friday, as they were at work, and as such were not overly interesting....although after the acid reflux attack of Wednesday night I was perfectly fine for work on Thursday, now, normally I would bore you to tears with many photographs of what I'd eaten, but I'm not sure what I ate on which day out of Thursday and Friday....so I'll just skip over those days! Trust me, I was good though :) and some of the food looked like this...

My syns were minimal so I could indulge myself on Saturday, although just because we were heading to a beer festival it didn't mean that the day turned into a free for all and breakfast was on plan.

Scrambled eggs, tomatoes, spinach and mushrooms on toast. A good stomach liner, and as I'd worked a 12 hour shift on Friday night, by the time I'd eaten and then got myself bathed it was time to pick up Jo from work and get myself ready for the off! It may have only been the Great Yarmouth beer festival, but for myself and Jo it seemed as good an excuse as any to get out corsetry and glam up! So suitably glammed we headed out to find beer, and met up with Shane. Many beers were partaken of, and my favourite was definitely the Magpie brewery's Dark Secret, which I could happily have supped all night, but it had ran out :( As we were meeting up with more friends later, we had to cut short out beer festivities and head home...normally quite dangerous, but I'd had an egg mayo sandwich at the beer festival, and I'd put a chilli in the slow cooker, so apart from the alcohol, and the birthday cake - did I mention that we had birthday cake? ;) - Saturday wasn't as bad as it might have been, once again thanks must go to Helen who brought many munches, and a truly wonderful present, which I shall share with you when I'm at work :) . The thought of my 8 stone award is keeping me focused!

With a reasonably early night, and not massive amounts of booze, I woke up feeling okay on Sunday, but decided to stay in bed whilst Hague went to work, as I'd been scraping by on about 5 hours sleep at the tail end of last week and needed to catch some up, and so my Sunday didn't properly start until around 4.30! It was the last day of the work 5 a day challenge, and so I was still going strong with my portions.

Quite the detox breakfast after a night off plan. Hague is suffering from rather a stinky cold and so we had a lovely relaxing day, doing not a lot, except watching the tellybox (Hague) and reading the new Dan Brown book (me) oh, and eating of course!

As you can see, my syns have remained minimal, so that Saturday wasn't too damaging! We were both snuggled up in bed by midnight though, although poor Hague spent most of the night coughing. Poor thing :(

So here we are, Monday, and a Bank Holiday Monday at that. how marvellous! I woke up, not full of the joys, but rather groggy due to Mr CoughsaLot, I shouldn't moan, as it's not his fault, and there is really nothing worse that coughing every time you try and lie down to sleep, besides, it wasn't like I had much in the way of plans when I woke up. That all changed very quickly, with one of my first messages from TOK...

It contained this picture, and my day was then decided. I must hunt down the cute unicorns, as we both needed them in our life. A lot. So rather than do boring shopping, I got up and dressed ready to pick up Hague from work, determined to find unicorns. First though, breakfast.

Omnomnom! I do like my cooked breakfasts on a weekend, and even if I say so myself, that looks like a damn fine breakfast, and it was delicious :) So well fuelled, I headed out to get Hague, and treated myself to a rather nice black coffee in the Silver Darlings cafe at the Time and Tide museum whilst I waited, sitting outside, enjoying the sunshine. Lovely.

Once I had me a Hague for company, we headed into town, him searching for a UFC game, me searching for unicorns. Neither of us had much luck, but I HAD to buy this...

It means a mere 3 days after payday all of my "spends" are now gone, but how gorgeous?? I love it! Well, at that point all my spends weren't gone, but once I was home, TOK had found a link to unicorn-ness and so I had to buy one of those too. He shall be called TOK and he shall make me smile every day :)

Anyway, you do not read this blog to read about pink things, well, not ONLY to read about pink things, so I shall move onto lunch, where I tried the pasta n sauce quiche for the first time, in yet another new purchase, a silicon baking tray. Which is awesome as nothing stuck to it at all!

Delish, and despite the work challenge being over now, plenty of veggies going on there. The quiche was easy too. I roasted off some veggies (courgette, mushroom, onion, garlic and tomatoes), then just stirred in a cooked pasta and sauce, topped with beaten eggs and quark and then two HeA's worth of Feta. In the oven for 25 minutes and voila! I shall snack on the rest of today's half later, and the other half shall make a lovely lunch for work.

Later wasn't much later, in fact it was about an hour later that I had the other bit of today's quiche, along with a dessert of fruit and yet another flavour of Activia yogurt.

Seeing as the Activia intensely creamy yogurts are just £1 for a multi-pack at the moment in Asda, I may have gone a wee bit overboard on stocking up.

Hague then decided that we should embark on a Paranormal Activity-a-thon, and so we started watching those, whilst I also carried on texting TOK and reading Inferno :) Obviously these are very energy intensive activities as I was soon hungry once more and seeing as we have the luxury of lots of large potatoes in the house, a jacket spud it was. Claire, you might want to look away now....

I am rather enjoying these Green days, as the dreaded super cheesey potato makes another appearance. For me, they're proper comfort food, and I can highly recommend the Pilgrim's Choice Lighter extra mature Cheddar, as it's so, so tasty. So the whole meal felt really decadent, especially when followed up with white chocolate and strawberries. Sort of. As I'd topped some lovely British strawberries with one of the Muller white chocolate desserts. Really yummy, and great movie munch as well.

With time getting away from me once more - I should leave it there really, as work is once more looming, but only for four days! Yay!

So there we have it, once more I am all up to date, albeit with only one food diary and not enough pictures, but trust me, I've been very much on plan. I'm quite desperate to get my next sticky this week - and I am really hoping I've done enough to get that one little tiny lb that I need. Only time will tell though, and this impatient little moo needs to wait until Wednesday morning this week to find out the verdict from the Scales of Doom...or Joy, depending on what they say!

Wish me luck!!!

Double Yuckness

Bit of a catch up today as the old shifts have got the better of me once more. Tuesday was a twelve hour shift as well, and for some reason I woke up at midday and couldn't get back to sleep - I've no idea what happened, I just didn't feel tired enough to drop off again! So once Hague was back from work I decided to get up and get fed!

You'd never guess I was still doing the 5 a day challenge would you? Unfortunately, after eating I came over all sleepy and went back to bed for 30 minutes, I didn't go back to sleep, but rather enjoyed being all cosy and warm, before getting up and getting ready for work.

Twelve's are by definition a long shift, but when you're tired they seem to last forever! With three of us running just one line we weren't overly busy either....not the best of combinations and so I struggled my way through to 6am....with this little lot inside me to keep me going...

I also had a Benefit bar but managed to leave my phone charging and so couldn't take a photo! :) Good old leftovers came to the rescue with the curry - without yogurt this time, and lots of roasted veggies with mayonnaise for my second meal break.

And so onto yesterday, yet another night shift, and after working for twelve hours with barely any sleep I managed to sleep my way right through until gone 6pm. Lovely :) However it did mean that I hadn't left myself much time to get food sorted! I did manage to throw together food for work, and dinner though, although I was cutting it a bit fine. I also managed to do a bit too much dinner...

Tons of veggies, plus pasta and Quorn meatballs. I should really trust my judgement more often, as when I was mixing it all together I thought it was a bit much, and after eating I felt really stuffed, which is not a feeling I enjoy at all :( For some reason though, after polishing off that lot, I felt like I needed something sweet and rustled up an Eton Mess type thing too.

No wonder I felt so stuffed! I showered and headed off to work, still feeling far to full and very uncomfortable.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but when you're feeling stuffed, and in a bit of pain in your stomach, I find it hard to decipher the signals - am I full, do I need the toilet, am I hungry? I definitely wasn't feeling right regardless, and a visit to the loo, and my Benefit bar didn't change how bad I was feeling.

After my break I felt worse and worse though. I kept trying to move around to ease the pain that was starting, but quite quickly it became apparent that something had brought on a bout of acid reflux. Whether it was the far too big dinner, or the coffee or just one of those things, I don't know - all I did know was that I needed my tablets to stave off the attack, and I needed them quickly. I was sure I had some in the car and so headed to the car park to grab them, only to find that I had none. By this time the pain had started building up. Bearing in mind that the first time I'd had an attack I ended up dosed up on morpine and in an ambulance, I'm sure you can appreciate the level of pain I was experiencing :(

I somehow managed to get home, and get a tablet down me, but by now, the attack was in full flow and all I could do was to desperately try and find a comfortable position whilst I waited for the tablets to work :( I had to tell work I couldn't come back - which was the last thing I wanted with a disciplinary hanging over me, but there was absolutely no way I could work in such pain. It finally eased off enough for me to try and sleep at about 4.30am, such a relief, but at least this time I didn't end up in A&E! Obviously, I didn't eat huge amounts as I'd left everything at work, and couldn't have eaten a thing once I was home.

An awful day yesterday. I was convinced I had tablets at work, or in the car, and as I hadn't I've left myself open to getting into yet more trouble for absence :( It's certainly opened my eyes to the fact that my appetite isn't anything like it used to be, and I need to realise that when sorting out my meals.

Believe me, I'll now be keeping my tablets with me at all times, and be watching my portions. The pain of an attack is some of the worst pain I've experienced, and it's not something I want to repeat anytime soon :( Here's hoping that work are understanding.... *sigh*

Staying Focused

Over the last few weeks I feel like I've been struggling. Not struggling to stay on plan, but struggling to see the wood for the trees. My weight loss has of course slowed down from when I first started Slimming World, which of course it was always going to, and recently I've felt like I'm doing the cha cha cha (as my group members call it), going backwards and forwards with losses and gains - this isn't actually true when I look at my progress, but it feels true, and when so much of losing weight is psychological it can play a huge part in whether you stay on plan or not.

As you can see, it's not like I gain ALL the time, but there are a fair few in there, and much as it feels as if I'm slowing down massively, perhaps I'm not when I look at the chart. Strange what our minds do isn't it? I feel like I've been focused on my 8 stone award for ages now, when in reality it's just been 3 weeks. Sometimes you need to take a deep breath, and a time out and appreciate the journey you've already completed, rather than frustrating yourself for not being THERE yet. So that's what I'm determined to do right now. Take stock, celebrate what I've achieved so far, and try and relax a wee bit rather than putting pressure on myself!

So what have I achieved so far?

I really should stop whinging shouldn't I, and let myself feel proud and happy of my journey so far. Which I shall :)

I shall get onto Monday now, as you've sat through enough of my waffle for one day :)

As you know from yesterday's blog, I weighed in last night, and so woke up just in time to pick up Hague from the station and didn't have anything to eat until after weigh in and I tried something a little bit new, a SW friendly version of a Malayan curry, which is my favourite, but of course very high in syns from the take away!

I fried off some Quorn chunks, courgettes, mushrooms, pepper and onions for a little while, until they were soft and just added in a tin of tomatoes and a tin of Asda chickpea dahl and let it simmer away whilst my rice cooked. When the curry was off the heat I stirred in my secret ingredient...

According to the syns online, all multipack Activia 0% yogurts are syn free - so I would presume that covers the summer special flavours too! It worked though, and I thoroughly enjoyed my fake-away. I had dessert as well.

Got to keep my energy up on these night shifts! With that eaten it was time to head to work, my 8th day straight! Luckily, only one line was running again, and so the only real hazard during the night was staying awake! Due to me enjoying "proper" green days again, lots of HeB snackage made it's way into my bag of noms.

I enjoyed the new magazine as well, although I'll have to have a closer look at some of the recipes as nothing really leaped out at me. I also thought I'd have some Scan Bran as a bit of a change with the biggest bowl of salad ever for my lunch. I was literally eating it for my entire lunch break! As you may have noticed, I seem to have managed to have no syns today. It certainly wasn't planned, I'd taken in some Crispy Fries and an Activia yogurt, but was just too full, and so they came home with me!

Even though I didn't have any syns, I certainly didn't feel deprived, and I'll be honest, it certainly won't hurt as we're heading to the Great Yarmouth Beer Festival on Saturday and methinks I won't be keeping within my syns then!

I can't wait! Nom!

Money Raising and Money Grabbing!

Sunday - What a day! Starting at 5.30am, and lasting for 25 long ol' hours before I could hit the hay once more - except for a nap, they don't count right?

So why on earth was I up so early on a Sunday morning? Well I have my broken body clock to thank for that one, as I'd set my alarm for 7, but my brain decided that a whole hour lie in was more than enough after my week of earlies, and so I got myself up and showered and treated myself to a cooked breakfast before heading to The Parentals for the Race for Life.

I may only have been planning to walk those 3 miles, but I needed fuel! With all of us gathered at The Parentals, we then headed off to the Norfolk Showground, in sunshine! Such a relief as all week the weather has definitely said it would be soggy! I had, of course, dressed up for the occasion - any excuse ;)

This is me, my Mum and my Sister, just arrived at the showground and raring to go! Whilst everyone else prepped with some doughnuts, I stayed strong, and joined in with the warming up, and was rather intrigued by Zumba, maybe I shall have a look for the game on the Wii as it looked quite good fun!

So here's one more shot for you of our team, just about ready for the countdown to start!

I had decided to walk it quite quickly, and I managed to keep up a reasonably steady pace, and finished in 48 minutes and 48 seconds, the fastest I've ever managed. Bloody ached at the end though lol, and once again willpower was in force as we were given cakes as we crossed the line, but I gave mine to my Sister and waited for snackage. So here we are, at the end, with our medals on display :)

All with pink faces this time to match our outfits lol! The adults managed it in around 48 minutes, whilst our two little gymnasts ran around in just 29! We think we've managed to raise over £1000 as well, so once again, thank you all so much for your donations!

With the excitement over, I needed something to eat, and I'd brought some supplies with me, which I ate in the car on the way back to The Parentals.

It wasn't enough to fill me up though, and so when I stopped to get some petrol, I also got some supplies from Tesco, reduced carrot batons, which were the perfect noms for the drive home.

I dread to think how many portions of veg were in there, but I only counted three :) As I'd said yes to overtime, when I got in, I needed to head to bed, and so had myself a 4 hour nap to try and prepare for my shift.

When I was awake once more - feeling knackered and very, very achey, and also very hungry, and so the leftover pasta bake from the other day came to the rescue for dinner.

Perfect to fill me up ready for work :) Plus about 6 portions of veg! And so off I went, on my money grabbing exercise! It wasn't so bad, only one line was running - but that also meant that we only had the standard three breaks, as the line had to be stopped for us to get them in!

I was rather peckish at my first break, as it was later than normal, and so put away all those lovely fresh strawberries, plus Graze noms and a couple of Bear yoyo's too! So another 5 portions of fruit to add to my tally, and plenty of energy to get me through until my meal break.

Now, as you know, I don't like to have pasta twice in a day normally, but this lunch had been taken in by me on Saturday and not eaten, and so it seemed silly not to have it today. Along with the new flavour of Activia yogurt - banana and toffee, which is divine! For my last break, I had my usual noms...

I was really starting to struggle by now. Sore and so tired, I couldn't wait to get home and get into bed. As I'd been out most of the day I decided to let The Menagerie upstairs with me :) And so I settled down to sleep, at long, long last!

Now, just to add to the confusion of a blog about a day that lasted forever, and is about Sunday, when it's Monday, I shall tell you about weigh in....yes, weigh in....told you it was confusing! As I'm working a 12 hour night shift tomorrow I can't make it to my normal group and so off to the Peggotty Road group I headed. I wasn't feeling very confident. I'm sure everyone that goes to group can sympathise with that feeling....like you weigh several tons and you're bound to have a gain? Well that's how I felt, however, the scales know best, and they showed a 4lbs loss! Very happy with that, as now I've got rid of last weeks gain and am once more within touching distance of that very elusive 8 stone award, with just one solitary lb to get rid off!

So there we go, my super-mega long day, my Race for Life, and weigh in, all in one rather long blog :)
