Brass Monkeys & Success Express!

Ooooh it's got cold out there. Still not much in the way of snow to report, but last night my trusty weather app informed me that the temperature was what you might call a bit nippy....

Minus 10, with snow on the way, although as I'm typing we've only had the smallest of sprinklings, here's hoping for more tomorrow :)

I had planned on being all productive today, I'd set an alarm for 10.30 and everything. However, when Hague came to bed  at 4am, he woke me up and then I struggled to get back to sleep, meaning that the alarm was ignored and I didn't get out of bed until 2pm. I think the phrase is whoops. So now all the bits and bobs we were planning to do today are pushed back until tomorrow, with today designated as (yet another) lazy day :) Success Express was the foodie name of the day though, and so I decided on plenty of fruit for breakfast, topped with 40g of simply fruity muesli and a dollop or two of fat free natural yogurt.

There is an apple and a banana hiding under all those grapes too :) It was a surprisingly  filling too, as a breakfast of fruit normally doesn't keep me going, but today, this did the job. My mind turned to lunch quite quickly though, as with the extra superfree needed on Success Express I had to put a bit more thought into my meals. I also had to annoy Claire a bit with FB messages to ensure I had the plan straight in my head.  With the information that using stock was just fine, it was a thumbs up to have soup for lunch. Seeing as we already had half a butternut squash in the fridge, that was the start point :)

I roasted off the squash, a red pepper and a clove of garlic in the oven for 25 mins, and whilst it was cooking fried off some onions, and sorted out some stock. When the veggies were cooked, I put them in the pan, seasoned with my garlic and chilli grinder and let them boil for about 10 minutes then blended. I used about a litre of stock, but the soup was quite thin, so next time I'll cut that back a bit. It tasted lovely though - and with the crunchy curls was very filling.

The afternoon and early evening skittered past as I yabbered with my SW possee on Twitter (mostly witchypoo, WLB and TOK - feel free to add me btw), and wasted time on Facebook, until 8pm that is when the game started and so we had to watch the game, which was poo, and West Ham lost. Ah well. As I didn't want to miss the game, but was getting hungry, I had the remainder of my lunch soup at half time to keep me going :)

With the game over, and West Ham out of the FA cup - it was time for dinner. Once again I wasn't entirely sure what to have, but figured a vegetable heavy omelette would be pretty good. I may have overdone the veg though....

I think we can safely say this meal had 2/3 superfree :) Onions, courgettes, red cabbage, tomatoes, spinach and brussels. Nom :) With the addition of 3 eggs, and a HeA of cheese, dinner looked something like this...

I had two slices of bread too - I must admit I rather enjoyed having double the healthy extras again! Success Express certainly hasn't felt like a hardship today, so I'm hoping that I can follow it for at least 4 days this week. With dinner eaten, and my eyes getting heavy, I figured that I'd best have a hot chocolate to use up the rest of my milk allowance. I have my tea so strong that it barely dents 250ml, so my hot chocolate tonight was deliciously milky. However, microwaving the milk presented today's kitchen hazard. The handles of cups get hot when they've been nuked...very hot. Guess who forgot that one?

The milky, caramel flavour hot chocolate was delicious - and oh look - there seem to be some Mikado's there too :) Addictive little buggers that they are!

I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to follow Success Express - I've enjoyed having different foods, and having more superfree rather than free foods. it's made a pleasant change. It'll definitely be more of a challenge as the week goes on though!

One thing today has made me rather sad though. The Twitter Possee got talking about how all of us have been subject to having abuse shouted at us as we go about our daily lives. How sad is that? Three grown women, with careers, with lives, with partners, have been subject to people shouting comments at them purely because they're overweight. Society wouldn't accept behaviour like that towards any other minority  group - but a "fat bird"? Fair game apparently. It's rather sad isn't it? But as we all stated, we are changing, for the better. They will always be stupid and ignorant people, happy to throw stones at others.

The world would be a much nicer place if we all threw smiles about as easily as we threw insults wouldn't it? :(
