Happy New Year

I'm off plan tonight, and plan to have quite a few drinks, and so I shall take a moment now to wish all of you a wonderful 2013. May it bring you everything you wish for, and more.

I'm not making resolutions, but I WILL be slimmer this time next year :)

Thank you all for taking time out of your days to read my blog, and in your own way supporting me on my Slimming World journey so far. Every view, every comment helps to keep me going - even when I'm struggling, so a huge, big, heartfelt thank you to you all xxx


Fingertips!

Oh I am struggling today, with a super big S! I'm clinging onto plan with my fingertips right now! After a wonderful evening with friends last night, and plenty of booze and nibbles I was determined to get straight back on plan, and declined breakfast of lovely buttery toast, choosing to wait until we got home, so I could have something on plan.



I won't lie, I really wanted to be bad, I wanted a big, thick slice of the granary bread that's in the freezer, I wanted the bread topped with butter. But I was good. I had wholemeal toast, 2 slices from a 400g toast, topped with scrambled eggs, tomatoes and mushrooms. The house is still full of Christmassy noms. Hague has eaten his way through sweets, nuts and crisps today - I've been close to cracking so many times, but when I was hungry again, I stayed strong....



Lots of pickles, plus some LC extra light triangles, and these Snack-a-Jacks crunchy curls were part of my Christmas hamper, and at only 3.5 syns I was rather impressed, I might be getting those again, as they tasted really nice with the cheeseyness :) I was rather proud of myself for resisting, but I could still have eaten crap :(

Resistance was not futile though, although I did start to wonder why I was so hungry only to look at the clock and realise it was nearly 10pm. I think the phrase is oops ;) 



For a quick dinner, it was actually rather nice, red cabbage, carrots and spinach, mixed in with sweet chilli supernoodles and topped with a whole packet of Quorn sticky fillets - I was hungry :) It was rather good, even if I say so myself.



After a little while, I decided I needed something sweet, and treated myself to my Quoptions mix, still no naughty food here! As we're now heading towards 1am, and into the last hour of the first Twilight film, I'm guessing there will be no more food for me today, so I've done it, stayed on plan :)

Trying My Best!

It's all been a bit mad for the last couple of days, with working, rushing around and getting out and about. So sorry for the lack of a blog on Friday and Saturday! I'll quickly get you up to date so things can start to return to normal - Damn you Christmas and your confuddling of all the days!

Friday was a work day, I was hoping it would be the last day worked, but the chance of having to go in on Saturday was looming large :( As you may have noticed, I really don't like getting up early lol!

As we were going shopping after work, today's food was slightly samey...



 As you can see, along with the usual fare of muesli and yogurt, and a fair helping of fruit I had a cheeky Penguin. A refugee from the Christmas Hamper, and as it was only 5.5 syns it was a welcome bit of sweetness to brighten up a busy old day at work.

With work done and dusted, and with the threat of working on Saturday hanging over me, I needed some cheering up. Seeing as we had to head into town to go to the bank, we decided to have a little wander around the sales too. Now, obviously funds are limited, but we both managed to pick up a few bits we liked. Thanks must most definitely go to Boots for their awesome half price sale and I picked up a gift box which I shall be using as a handbag as it's just that awesome, and some rather gorgeous Soap&Glory lip glosses. Hague got himself a blu-ray and treated me to the second Twilight film that I'd been searching for. It was nice to get out and about in the fresh air too. It'd been a while! With the fun stuff done, we had to head to Asda - never that much fun, but with Hague in a fabby mood it wasn't bad at all, apart from the fact that had hardly anything! I did pick up these though....


I have been jealously admiring The Other Karen's blog when she has awesome spaghetti, and so I decided to treat myself :) I then gorged myself on Peppa Pigs.....is that allowed when you're vegetarian??? :)


You've got to love a dinner that makes you smile :) I'm not sure there's a whole 1/3 superfree there, but I did my best with the spinach and tomatoes in with the sausages and mash. I finished up with some pineapple as it had been reduced to 60p, rude not to pick it up really.


With a couple of cuppas inside me, it was time to head to bed, as as far as I knew, I was up at 4.30 for work :(

And so onto Saturday, which started at 4.30am when my alarm went off. I checked for a missed call or voicemail to see if we had been called off, and nothing, but then I checked my texts....not in! Yay! Best way to start a Saturday, to turn the alarm off and go back to sleep! With no work, I could have a proper cooked brekkie to start the day off right as well.


More LM sausages, with eggs, wedge and a mix of tomatoes and mushrooms. Yummy! With an evening with friends planned, the day was always going to be low key, and so Soccer Saturday was the order of the day! Although with not a single result going our way, perhaps we could have spent the time more productively :(

I did need snacks to get me through the bad news though!


Both Healthy Extras on one plate, with the ryvitas topped with blue cheese triangles and cucumber, with some gherkins and followed up with some Snack a Jacks (5 syns) and a healthy handful of grapes.


With all that lovely healthy food eaten, it was time to head to our friends house for the evening....where off plan was always going to happen, as it involved curry, nibbles and booze :)


The curry was divine, and had butternut squash, spinach and chickpeas in it, plus coconut milk..oops...but it was soooooo good :) Plus as you can see I had a nan bread, and bhajis and samosas. Then I had a lot of booze. But..........I had a fabulous evening, and Christmas does only happen once a year, and it's never a bad thing to catch up with friends and enjoy yourself, so I shan't feel bad about it!

Back on Plan

Today marks the start of being back on plan for a few days. It was a bit of a shock to the system to get up at 4.30am though. At least it's not for a whole week this time :) 

After everything I ate yesterday, I went to bed feeling utterly stuffed and bloated, not a pleasant feeling, and it continued on through this morning. another reason that it was rather nice to get back on plan today. Much as I enjoyed all the Christmassy goodies, my body isn't used to eating like that anymore, and it didn't particularly enjoy it!

Despite getting rather low on fresh food, I did manage to cobble together food to take to work with me.


A handful of grapes was perfect as I still felt bloated, and I barely managed much of the 7up, I'm not keen on fizzies at the best of times, and definitely not when I'm feeling so bleaurgh. Breakfast was nice and light too.


My Dorset Cereals muesli (which is still a HeB thank goodness) plus an Alpen Light bar from my Hamper and some fruit - once again I didn't drink much of the fizzy :(

For my final break, I gave up on the fizzy and just had some tea and another clementine, I reckon they'll be a permanent fixture in the future as I've really enjoyed them! Not just for Christmas methinks.


After work, it was time to face the music as it were.....weigh in. Now, I'm a realist, I knew full well there would be a gain on the cards, you've seen what I've eaten, and what I've drunk over the last few days, and I'll be honest, I was expecting quite a large gain. However, I was quite pleasantly surprised to only gain 2lbs!

I also picked up my lovely new Members Pack, which has dealt me with a whole new conundrum, whether to switch over to the new book, and transfer all my stickers and losses (and gains) into the new book, or to stick with my old book for now. For now, I'm undecided - although my Consultant would rather I transferred over.....I never was good at making decisions!

With weigh in done, it was dinner time.


Pasta with lots and lots of veggies (courgettes, mushrooms, tomatoes and spinach) plus the rest of the left over Quorn roast, all mixed in with half a tub of LowLow. It was delicious and really hit the spot. It was rather nice to eat proper, tasty, healthy food, and feel nicely satisfied afterwards, rather than feeling stuffed and lethargic.

Although, with so much Christmas food to get through, I might as well squeeze a few treats into my day.....


Cadbury's fingers are 1.5 syns each, and seeing as we have practically a whole box, I thought I'd have myself 6 syns worth of chocolatey goodness with my cup of tea before bed. I'm totally savouring them, just having a little nibble here and there between sips of tea :) Oh the restraint :)

Today has actually been easier than I expected. The house is still groaning with Christmas goodies, but the 4 little fingers have been enough to ease that chocolate craving. Over the weekend, I'll take a good look at my new SW pack and make sure I know about any of the changes that affect me, although just having the Green plan in a separate book will make things much, much easier for me as the old book is a tad hard to follow sometimes.

Big, Fat Boxing Day!

After yesterday, and the rather large amounts of booze I consumed, today was never going to start very early - and so it was midday before we crawled out of bed.

Before eating anything I polished off the rest of the orange juice and had a couple of large cups of tea as well. I did feel surprisingly okay, not hungover at all - but it did take me a while to feel hungry. Not really a shock after everything I ate yesterday! When I finally got around to breakfast/brunch it was something quick and easy, and in the finest tradition of Christmas, consisting of leftovers :)


Quorn roast and cheese sandwich with some mayonnaise and clementines. It was a lot more filling that it looked, and I didn't feel hungry again for ages. When I did next eat, it was just an accompaniment to a cuppa. A hugely synful accompaniment, but that's all it was :)


I managed to polish off the rest of the Stollen bites and some Cadbury's fingers - more goodies from the bottomless hamper provided by The Parentals. Dan will be in no danger of running out of sweet things for the next few weeks that's for sure!

When the time came for dinner, it made sense to get rid of more of the hamper temptations before getting back onto plan tomorrow, and so dinner was rather picky in nature, consisting of dippy things, munchy things and of course, more cheese :)


The cracker type things are actually Ryvita thins, one of the more SW friendly items that Mum put in the hamper for when I'm back on plan, they're sweet chilli flavour and one of them is only 1.5 syns, so not bad really if you do yourself a syn free dip.





I managed to devour quite a lot of cheese as well, but we still have tons and tons left. Good job I can still eat it on plan, as it'll last for quite a while :) Of course, as you may have noticed, I've not had a mince pie yet, and it's just not Christmas without one, and so even after all those pickings for dinner I managed to stuff a couple in!



Topped with clotted cream - just delicious :) However, as I sit here, stuffed to the gills, I can quite honestly say that I'm looking forward to getting back on plan tomorrow, although I'm not particularly looking forward to getting up for work at 4.30am that's for sure.

Tomorrow I shall also find out just how much damage has been caused by my off plan Christmas, as well as finding out what new bits and bobs are in the new Slimming World packs, I guess most of tomorrow evening will be spent with my nose buried in that :) 

So for the last time this year, I shall leave you with no food diary - something that shall be fully rectified tomorrow! I hope your Christmas has been as wonderful as mine, and if you've been off plan, you find it nice and easy to get back onto plan whenever you choose to take that step :)

Be warned. There isn't much Slimming World friendly food ahead - when I said Christmas Day would be off plan I wasn't kidding :) There are many syns ahead of you Dear Reader, but I enjoyed every single one of them, as me and Hague had a truly fabulous day!

I woke up early, as I'm a big kid when it comes to Christmas, but managed to get myself back to sleep for another couple of hours to get past my 8am curfew :) First things first and I had a huge cup of coffee with lots of milk to perk me up as we opened up our pressies. With the presents opened and adored it was time for breakfast.



At first look, breakfast doesn't look too bad, but I had butter on my toast, and a healthy glass of orange juice, and followed it up with my incredibly disappointing Advent chocolate, I was expecting at least a present or a Father Christmas - not some holly, oh well, what do you expect from a 99p calendar? With breakfast eaten, as it's Christmas, it was time to start drinking, with the socially acceptable choice of Bucks Fizz :)


With a couple of Bucks Fizz's inside us it was time to prep for our dinner. Hague was taking the lead on the cooking, and I just had to assist with prepping the veggies, so not too much work really, and by 2.30 we were sitting down to a delicious dinner.



I had a prawn cocktail without the prawns, which was followed up by a wonderful Christmas dinner. It actually wasn't too terrible syns wise, as the potatoes were roasted in frylight, and the Quorn roast is free. There may have been a few syns in the huge dollop of cauliflower cheese and the honey glazed carrots and parsnips though :) 

Even Boo got a Christmas dinner!


After that delicious meal, we were absolutely stuffed, with no room for dessert, however, I still had room for the lovely pink fizzy wine we'd opened over dinner and followed that up with some Rose wine as well. The tin of Hero's from the hamper seemed to find itself open as well at this point....


I didn't have tons and tons, but I had quite a few, around 6 or 8 before I made Hague take them away from me, otherwise I'd have been mindlessly stuffing my face with them for ages. I did eventually find some room for dessert though, and I have to say, top marks must go to Asda for their Sherry trifle which was absolutely gorgeous! 


That did me for food for a fair old while, although the drink kept on flowing, and the bottle of honey Jack Daniels that was packed inside our hamper didn't last too long....


Despite a busy day of watching Christmas telly, having lots of cuddles and just enjoying the general wonderfulness of Christmas, we didn't feel hungry enough for tea for quite a while. I'd laid out the table with all sorts of munchables, but it was quite late before I had the room to dig into my biggest weakness.......CHEESE!





The Parentals had put a cheese board in the hamper and so I indulged myself with creamy brie, gorgeous stilton, mature cheddar, wensleydale with cranberries and some delicious chutney. Just divine, and we still have SO much left! As you may have noticed there are also some sneaky little Stollen bites hidden in the pictures above. They were 6 syns each, but oh they were so good. Seeing as I had 5 of them, that's two days syns right there - Christmas never was going to be very Slimming World friendly was it?? 

But - I had a lovely day, a really lovely day. Just how Christmas should be, but more relaxed as it was just us and the animals, so no worries about leaving Boo on her own, about drinking too much or about getting home. Lovely :)

Now to see how much damage has been done....especially as I won't be properly back on plan now until the 27th when I'm back at work.

Heading Off Plan!

Oh yes, the time is here, and as promised I'm heading off plan for Christmas. Once again I woke up too early, at 7.30 and just snuggled myself up in bed playing my iPad until it was time to get myself up and bathed ready to go and pick up Hague from the station! I did something a bit naughty this morning when I got out of bed though. I weighed myself. I had planned to do this anyway, just to see if, under normal circumstances I'd have had a loss this week, and according to my scales it would have been quite a significant loss, however, it's not an official loss - I'll have to wait until Thursday to see how my days off plan will affect me.

With me bathed, made up and prettified ready to pick up Hague from the station, I went to collect him, all excited at having him home, and he let me know when we got home that I was now off plan :)

Who am I to argue? And so my first meal of the day was a lovely granary bread chunky cheese sandwich :)


As you can see, I still had my superfree with my sandwich though :) I followed it up with my penultimate Advent choccie.


Quite restrained really! I spent the afternoon snuggled up with Hague watching Prince Caspian and then The Grinch, all Christmas snacks remaining untouched, and then for dinner I had the decidedly SW friendly meal of egg and chips!


Hague actually took the pee when I came in with this for dinner, questioning my ability to go off plan ;) however, I think what we had afterwards was firmly off plan.....


Homemade egg nog, containing eggs, sugar, milk, cream and rather a lot of booze....I dread to think how many syns were in it, but damn it was good. This year I made it with Sailor Jerry spiced rum and Bourbon rather than dark rum and brandy and it was absolutely delicious, although very, very filling!

From there on in, it descended somewhat, with me raiding the hamper snacks for the first time for some nuts, and enjoying a glass or two of wine :)


Hague has already pillaged several bags of crisps and some pork pies, so I think we can safely say the present has gone down well. After watching lots of Christmassy things tonight, we're now watching The Terminator as a bit of an anti-dote - although I'm hoping to get my own way and have Muppet Christmas Carol on in bed. It won't be a late one tonight as I know I'll be up stupidly early tomorrow, so I shall say goodnight, and wish you all a very, very happy Christmas :)

And So It Begins....

The normal routine is done with and Christmas is rapidly approaching. With Hague safely deposited at the station at 7am ready to head up to Barnsley for his early Christmas with the boys, I had planned on going back to bed, however I was thwarted by the sheer addictive-ness of Plants vs Zombies and didn't get back to sleep until nearly 10am! I was out of bed again before midday though, and got the urgent jobs done - wrapping my Nieces presents and getting the family cards written out before heading to The Parentals for the day.

Here's where the struggle began. My Mum never knowingly undercaters for Christmas, and true to form an open tin of Quality Street was on the table, however I stayed strong and whilst I was there only had 3 rather enormous cups of tea, and a Slimming World friendly dinner cooked just for me :)


Knowing that I photograph all my food, my Mum was fussing over whether to take the cottage pie out of the tray or not....she decided it looked more presentable left in the tray :) I must say though, top marks must go to her wedges, which were absolutely divine! I think I might invest in some frozen Quorn cottage pies for the freezer though. The 300g one I had is only 3½ syns and is perfect for a quick dinner.

Whilst I was there, I was informed that I had to have my present there and then - the reason why became quite obvious when I saw it. As we're having Christmas at home this year, The Parentals had put together a HUGE hamper of Christmas food for us, and when I saw HUGE I mean it!


The rest of my time there was spent chatting away and spending some time with the girlywigs, who were obviously rather massively excited about Christmas :)

When I got home, I sorted through the hamper, which also included fridge goodies....unbelievable!





Add to that little lot cheeses, sausage rolls, cheese and onion rolls, dips and more cheese and I think you can safely say that we're set for Christmas now! My Mum had even put in some SW friendly snacks like Ryvita Mini's, Alpen Lights and Snack-a-Jacks, as she knew I'd be getting back on plan and wanted me to still be able to have snacky things to enjoy. So thoughtful.

When all that was put away, I was rather tired, and so rather than carrying out my intended plan of having a few drinks I just had a single glass of wine before heading up to bed.

I had planned to have a lovely long lie in and plenty of sleep. However, as I decided to let the cats upstairs, that sort of didn't work.....I woke up quite a few times thanks to Jadey trying to get as close to me as possible, and Flumpy deciding that the small hours are the perfect time to wash every inch of herself. My own fault I guess, and so I was out of bed by 9am. As you can see I only had the one meal yesterday, and so it was no surprise that I woke up rather hungry, and so I did myself a lovely big breakfast :)


My sub-standard wedges, tomatoes, mushrooms and spinach, eggs and hiding under there somewhere is a single, lonesome Linda McCartney sausage I found in the freezer. With my hunger sated for now, it was time to get the rest of the Christmas jobs done, and so Hague's presents are now wrapped, the dining table is cleared and ready for Christmas, all the washing up is done and (eventually) all the shopping was collected. Seriously Asda, no cream? *sigh* So rather than a quick click and collect, I had to click and collect, then go into Asda anyway to pick up the trifle they supposedly didn't have and to look for some cream, which they actually didn't have, and so I had to stop at Aldi too, they didn't have any double cream either, but I picked up clotted cream instead - yummy :)

So with all of the Christmas jobs done, I now have nothing to do but relax! Firstly though, I was hungry again and so sorted myself out a quick lunch.


Pasta, with courgettes, tomatoes and spinach, topped with some genuine Cypriot Feta from the fridge section of the hamper. Simple, fresh and delicious. After that filling lunch, and my terrible night I decided that a nap was in order and so headed up for a couple of hours.

After nappage, I got to talk to Hague, hearing all about his lovely weekend with the boys - with all you can eat Chinese, breakfasts, presents and overexcited boys the order of the day. It sounds like they all had a wonderful time, and apparently the Harry Potter broomsticks I bought them went down a storm. I'm so, so glad he's had a great time, but I can't wait for him to get back home so our Christmas can begin :)

As Hague isn't here, I'm catching up on bits and bobs on the Sky+ box, and what better to have whilst watching films as diverse as Elizabeth - The Golden Age and Twilight - Eclipse than some picky snacks?


I've not had Snack-a-Jacks in ages and had forgotten how nice they were - so another thanks must go out to Mum for putting them in the hamper. Time is getting on, and so there's just time to fit in my HeB in the form of a couple of Alpen Light bars and a cup of rooibos tea, plus my Advent choccies!

Now, as you can see, Christmas hasn't affected me as of yet, but I'll warn you now, that is about to change :) If you go back through my blogs you'll see that I've not had an entire day off plan for the whole time I've been on Slimming World, I've had meals off, and nights off, but Christmas is going to be the first time I've thrown syns out of the window and will be eating whatever I like. That's going to start when Hague gets back tomorrow. I did ask on my FB page if you all still wanted me to blog, and the responses would suggest that yes, you want to see just how off the rails I can go ;) I'm sure I will deliver that in spades - you saw the hamper right?? 

Anyway, as it's getting closer by the minute to Christmas Eve, I'm sure it's not too early to wish you all a wonderful Christmas, whether it be on plan, flexi or a free for all, have an amazing day!
